These new routes complement Tallinn’s existing direct connections to major European hubs, including Helsinki (ferry + flights), Stockholm, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, London, Berlin, Amsterdam, and many others. airBaltic also increases frequencies on select Tallinn routes for summer 2026.

Travel to Estonia by Ferry

If you’re coming from nearby countries, especially Finland or Sweden, you can opt for a ferry ride to Estonia. 

  • Estonia has several ferry terminals along its coast, including Tallinn Ferry Terminal and Paldiski Ferry Terminal
  • Ferries provide a picturesque and convenient way to access Estonia, with frequent sailings between Tallinn, Helsinki, Stockholm, and other Baltic Sea destinations.
  • It takes only 2-2.5 h ferry ride to reach Helsinki or 12 hours overnight – to Stockholm. 
  • Sea travel enthusiasts are welcomed on cruise ships stopping at Tallinn Port or in Saaremaa, the largest Estonia island, with a deep-water harbour, for in-depth exploration of Estonia.

Travel to Estonia by Train

Since January 2025, Tallinn is connected to Riga and Vilnius by a coordinated daily rail service operated jointly by Estonian carrier Elron, Latvian carrier Vivi, and LTG Link. Trains depart Tallinn once daily, reaching Riga in approximately 6.5 hours and Vilnius in approximately 10.5 hours, with short transfers in Valga and Riga. A single ticket covers the full journey.

From Vilnius, onward daily trains continue to Warsaw and Kraków. The Rail Baltica high-speed line, currently under construction across all three Baltic states, will eventually reduce the Tallinn–Riga journey to around 2 hours and the Tallinn–Warsaw journey to just over 6 hours, directly connecting Estonia to the European high-speed rail network.

Travel to Estonia by Bus

Buses are a practical and cost-effective means of travelling to Estonia, especially if you’re visiting from neighbouring countries like Latvia and Lithuania. International bus companies operate routes to Tallinn and other Estonian cities. The bus terminals in Tallinn are well-served, making it easy to explore the country further.

Travel to Estonia by Car

If you prefer flexibility and plan to explore Estonia at your own pace, driving to the country yourself is an option. Estonia’s road infrastructure is well-maintained, and it’s connected to neighbouring countries by land. A road trip is a perfect solution for a country combination (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) with extensions to Finland with a ferry crossing.
