Travel to Latvia by Sea

Latvia has very long coastline of Baltic sea so it’s natural the country has several ferry terminals along its Baltic Sea coast: Riga Passenger Terminal, Port of Liepaja and Ventspils Port.

  • Traveling to Latvia by ferry is very convenient option if you ar traveling from countries like Sweeden, Finland or Germany. 
  • For example, the Riga Passenger Terminal serves as a gateway for cruise ships and all other types of ships, as well as ferries and yachts. The Riga Passengers Terminal is a 15 min. walk away from Riga Old Town.
  • You can access the Port of Liepaja from Germany and the Ventspils Port from Sweden and Finland.

Travel to Latvia by Train

Riga is connected to Vilnius by a direct daily international train service (LTG Link), with the journey taking approximately 4 hours. From Vilnius there are onward daily connections to Warsaw and Kraków in Poland (approx. 7.5 hours). Since January 2025, all three Baltic capitals are linked by a coordinated daily service — making it possible to travel by train from Tallinn through Riga to Vilnius in a single day with one ticket. The Rail Baltica high-speed line currently under construction will eventually reduce the Tallinn–Riga journey to around 2 hours and connect the entire region to Warsaw and the broader European rail network.

Travel to Latvia by Bus

Buses are a cost-effective way to travel to Latvia, especially if you’re visiting from neighbouring countries like Lithuania, Estonia, or Poland. Several international bus companies operate routes to Riga and other Latvian cities. Travelling by bus makes it perfect for group travels or incentive trips across the Baltic countries.

Travel to Latvia by Car

If you prefer flexibility and have a passion for road trips, you can drive a car yourself to Latvia or combine a road trip to Latvia with visiting Lithuania and Estonia too. The road infrastructure in Latvia is well-maintained, and the country’s location in the Baltic region makes it accessible by car from various European cities.
