Wonderful news for Lithuanian gastronomy – website of foodies tasteatlas.com has listed 17 of the most delicious cold soups from all over the world, including Lithuanian cold beetroot soup! The aim of TasteAtlas is to promote local food, foster pride in traditional dishes and increase curiosity about dishes that have never been tasted before. On 1 June 2024 Vilnius hosted the Pink Soup Fest for the second time in a row.  We have to cherish the soup that makes Lithuania famous! We share with you some moments from the fun and bright pink festival.

PINK SOUP FESTIVAL IN VILNIUS 2024

We are happy that locals and guests of the city were able to try exciting tastes of our cold beetroot soup and appreciate Lithuania’s gastronomic heritage anew. Like last year, visitors were able to try the slide from the Barbican Hill straight into the big ‘bowl’ of pink cold soup, took part in creative workshops and listened to concerts. This year, even more activities were organised for the celebration of vibrant pink soup.

2 Lithuanian records were also achieved during the festival. More than 1000 people ate cold pink soup simultaneously at the 362-metre long pink table – that’s how many years passed since the first mentioning of the beetroot soup in Vilnius history!

HOW DID THE PINK SOUP FIESTA LOOK LIKE IN 2023?

During the festival, Vilnius residents and visitors were invited to engage in a variety of cultural activities and try out pink gastronomic experiences. More than 100 businesses – restaurants, cafés, bars, hotels, museums, galleries, tour operators and other entertainment providers – have joined the festival to rediscover a traditional dish. The city itself has also turned pink, with the help of 2 female artists who presented their works on the streets of Vilnius.

Pink dominated not only in cold soups but also in other dishes during the festival. In different regions of Lithuania, you could experience the traditional taste of cold beetroot soup in various dishes like meat, ice cream or cheese,  sushi, zeppelins. Drinks were also involved: cocktails, pink soup-flavoured coffee and more.
