Planning travel responsibly: we’re proud to be ISO 14001 certified for environmental management systems

We are delighted and proud to announce that Estravel Vilnius has been awarded the internationally recognised ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) certificate. This proves that we plan our trips not only professionally, but also responsibly towards ourselves, our clients and the environment. Sustainable solutions and sustainable travel are our future.

Why is ISO 14001 so important?

  • ISO 14001 compliant organisations mean that the company is committed to growing its business by making sustainable decisions for the future.
  • Organisations certified to this standard are required to maintain a high bar – to maintain the ISO 14001 standard, companies undergo annual surveillance audits.
  • Recertification is mandatory every 3 years.
  • By adopting this standard, organisations commit themselves not only to complying with legal requirements, but also to continuously improving their environmental processes. This not only leads to a more sustainable future, but also to even greater trust in the company.

What does it mean when a company complies with ISO 14001?

  • The company complies with environmental legal requirements.
  • An environmentally friendly company: applying ISO 14001 can help manage waste and emissions more efficiently, which reduces the environmental impact in the future.
  • The company makes responsible and efficient cost management decisions.
  • The ISO 14001 standard gives the company the tools to identify, assess and manage environmental risks even better.
  • Continuously improves its performance against prescribed environmental standards.

How can we work together to contribute to a sustainable future by planning our travel, flights and events?  Examples of sustainable travel solutions.

Planning individual holidays

  • If you’re taking a cruise, you can always choose a cruise ship that runs on liquefied natural gas and uses the most innovative technologies to ensure the tranquility of the underwater world.
  • Choose a hotel that cares about the environment – it might be worth choosing a hotel that doesn’t use plastics or supports initiatives to preserve nature, culture, history, etc.
  • Support local communities – a strong economy is the key to the strength of any country, and travellers have a lot of power here. One way to do this could be to buy authentic handmade souvenirs from the locals.
  • Choose excursions that contribute to society or nature – for example, visit wildlife reserves or zoos that work with animal conservation programmes.

Planning business trips

  • Choose accommodation with Green Key green certification.
  • Prioritise airlines that invest in sustainable fuels.
  • If possible – choose more sustainable way of travel to your meeting in other country or city. For example, from Vilnius, Riga is easily accessible by modern buses and Warsaw by train instead of a flight.
  • If you need to rent a car for your trip, you can always choose an electric car.

When planning business events: team building events, conferences

  • Choose certified, quality food and beverage suppliers using local products.
  • It is worth thinking about the venue – a convenient location that is easily accessible on foot or by public transport.
  • Consider souvenirs for corporate events – for example, instead of a brochure, you could give guests a water bottle made from sustainable materials.
  • You can contribute to or organise various charity or other socially responsible initiatives during the event.

Planning incentive trips for your team, partners and clients

  • Choose sustainable destinations – this means destinations that offer opportunities for outdoor activities, have many attractions within easy walking distance, etc.
  • For group tours, you can choose bicycles, electric scooters or other sustainable types of transport.
  • Contribute to the preservation of local communities – for example, visit local tribes if you are visiting distant countries, experience their way of life and buy souvenirs from such communities.
  • Organise meals in local chain restaurants.
  • Just as we mentioned above: prioritise airlines investing in sustainable fuels, Green Key hotels, more environmentally friendly transport.

And these are just a few examples of what we can do together to make travel planning responsible very simple – after all, it all starts with us all.
